Him, Knight. Me, Not.

Today, Bono got knighted while I got jousted in the knards. Bono looked regal as he accepted his high honor. I accepted that my Buick Regal wanted to drop the alternator belt in Oxnard (speaking of nards) causing my power steering to go out. Bono hopes to parlay this honor into some serious face time with leaders in positions of power on his mission for debt relief in Africa. I hoped to drive with out power steering back to Santa Barbara and spend as little face time as I could with my mechanic until my engine died which will likely parlay the $800 I just dropped on brakes and a wiper motor into some debt. Bono shares his new title, Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE), with Bill Gates of Microsoft. My son won’t be a knight in the Jedi Order since I’ll be spending his lightsaber money on the car that broke down the same day I failed my exam for Microsoft Windows XP.

It’s like we’re brothers.

Thanks to Martha for the heads up on this brilliant clip.  It’s long but worth it…

ScribeFire In The Hole!

If you use Firefox (and you should), you might want to check out, Firefox plug-in, ScribeFire for your Blogging needs. This post is my first try and it’s pretty straight forward. The real benefit is the speed at which you can post. It’s like blogging on semi-auto. Once installed, there is a little orange “pad and pencil” icon at the bottom right of your Firefox window. Click that and the bottom half of your screen is waiting for your blog entry. I miss some advanced plug-in features I have in the Wordpress admin window but this will be perfect for quick blog posts!

I just had to edit this post in the regular Wordpress interface to align the images better. Now I hate ScribeFire! OK, I’ve calmed down. I will give it a chance.

He Ain’t Heavy, He’s Túrin Turambar

Much like yourselves, I have long been awaiting the publication of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Children of Hurin. The tale of the longer living offspring of Húrin, son of Galdor and Morwen, daughter of Baragund (their daughter, Lalaith, died very young).

You likely recall in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, Morgoth captured Húrin, and set a terrible curse on his surviving children, his son Túrin and daughter Nienor. The story of the working of this curse is a long and tragic one, involving the Sack of Nargothrond, the slaying of Glaurung, and ultimately the deaths of both Túrin and Nienor. It is told in the Narn i Hîn Húrin, the ‘Tale of the Children of Húrin’.  It’s on my Amazon wish list, y’all!

Namárië!

Put This In Your Ear… again

I just listened to Taco Bells and Soda.  It reminded me of a few things.

  1. I miss my sister, Jesse.
  2. I miss my niece, McKenzie.
  3. I miss my nephew, Jacob.
  4. Not enough people have heard Jacob’s hit song, Taco Bells and Soda.
Jake rocked the mic at 2 yrs old!

Outlaw Song, not the Bon Jovi one.

I’m in a songwriting group with Matt Knoles, Andy White and Dan Hislop.  I challenged the group to write an outlaw song.  We ended up with some pretty good tunes.  Below, you can play or download my song, “Brave When I Went”.  Try not to cry on your keyboard.

Wish List

May I pretty please work with this guy one day?  Please?

300

If I heard that hundreds of thousands of freaks were on their way to destroy all my people and stuff, I’m not sure that I would choose to ask 300 of my friends in naught but their fruit slings and red capes to join me in battle. Then again, I’m not a Spartan king. (more…)

The Namesake

The Namesake wasn’t the first movie I’ve seen since my best friend, Matt, passed away, but it was the first Cinema Society screening. The last screening we went to was Hollywoodland and it was tough on us both (and not just because of the movie). Matt, physically, and me, emotionally. This was our thing and he’s gone. So, it was with a heavy heart that I pressed on to see a movie before opening day. Someone has to, people! These movies don’t watch themselves! (more…)

A long time ago, in a galaxy 1hr 45min away

A couple weekends ago, my family joined the Ewarts, the Speakes and hundreds of people-in-my-way at the Star Wars Science Exhibit in LA.

Highlights: Sweet props and models and costumes, STORMTROOPERS, Taco Bell.

Lowlights: I had to make sure my kids didn’t get caught in any tractor beams, No piles of money to blow at the everything Star Wars shop.

He was a little short to be a StormTrooper
